About Me
After more than 10 years of primarily European travel and photo making with my wife, starting with a pocket camera, I’ve developed a strong passion for landscape photography. Up until recently, my images have turned into enlargements on canvas and metal displayed in our home, or become part of a travel photo book for each trip we’ve taken. Recently, a new gallery owner here in Castle Rock, Colorado, invited me to exhibit and sell my work, which in turn led to this website. As I hope you’ll realize from looking through my portfolio, we love the Mediterranean countries, especially Italy, France, Spain, Croatia, and Greece, but we have also traveled to Scotland, Ireland, and some of Germany and Switzerland. Now that we’ve visited many of the historic large European cities, we now seek out small, old picturesque villages, many that are centuries old. Some can be identified beforehand through resources such as “France’s Most Beautiful Villages,” however it seems like some of the more attractive and unspoiled ones are found purely through our exploration, usually in the form of aimlessly driving around in the countryside, sometimes getting lost in the process!
Picture-taking aside, we love to immerse ourselves as much as possible in the local culture, which is usually very regional in nature, especially in the larger countries like Italy, Spain, and France. This means learning and using a bit of the native language, staying in small family-owned countryside B&B’s or inns, enjoying the local food and wine, including cooking lessons as often as possible, and conversing with the “locals” about the nearby “un-touristed” sites. Since I really haven’t learned how to effectively integrate tourist groups or crowds into my images, we avoid places frequented by tour buses.
Any of my images can be printed on paper, canvas, or metal, in an almost infinite number of sizes and formats. I’ve also started making/selling simple floating frames, that are especially well-suited to gallery-wrapped canvas images. In addition, I enjoy enhancing my photos with special art lighting techniques, including LED back-lit canvas images. I sincerely hope that during these uncertain and no-travel times, that one of my photos could help bridge the gap until your next trip, bring you memories of a favorite place you’ve already visited, or perhaps encourage travel to one of those “bucket-list” locations you’re dreaming about. Thanks!
George
