Not the most handsome of African wildlife, but certainly the most numerous, estimated at several million, with estimates of a half-million born each year. The wildebeast is most famous not only for its number, but also for the Great Migration that it is the main participant in every year as it continues to move to greener grazing. No fewer that hundreds of thousands in a herd take on predators and river crossings where many perish. We were fortunate to witness the migration taking place from our safari camps in both Kenya and Tanzania, and photographed a large river crossing in Tanzania.
