“Gaztelugatxe, Basque Country, Spain” is available in-stock as a 16x24” print on gallery-wrapped-edge canvas.

The word gaztelugatxe comes from the Basque gaztelu = "castle" and atx = "rock", forming "the rock castle". On a personal note, this made me particularly fond of this site, since I live in the town of Castle Rock, Colorado.

Gaztelugatxe is an islet on the coast of Biscay belonging to the municipality of Bermeo, Basque Country (Spain). It is connected to the mainland by a man-made bridge. On top of the island stands a hermitage and former monestary (named Gaztelugatxeko Doniene in Basque; San Juan de Gaztelugatxe in Spanish), dedicated to John the Baptist, that dates from the 10th century, although discoveries indicate that the date might be the 9th century.

As Dragonstone in “The Game of Thrones” TV series, most of the actual castle was later added in with a bit of help from CGI. Thus, the Dragonstone castle is a real place located in Spain. San Juan de Gaztelugatxe as it's called unfortunately doesn't have any dragons, but it does have a tiny church on the highest point .

All prints are available in ready-to-hang, gallery-wrapped CANVAS or METAL (aluminum).
