Late on one day while nearing the end of our sunset drive, our driver and spotter from Simbambili Lodge received a radio alert that a lion kill site had been spotted. We quietly made our way there, and found 5 lionesses feeding on a large male kudu. When one raised up, I was able to capture this image showing the blood around her mouth. The group was unaffected by our quiet and respectful presence, but constantly chased off a looming hyena waiting its turn to come in for the clean-up. A marvelous view of the hunters and the hunted, we only wished that we could have seen the kill in action…maybe next time!
