$600.00

Matera is an ancient city in the Basilicata Region of far southern Italy that has been designated a UNESCo World Heritage Site since 1993, and a European Capital of Culture in 2019. First occupied in the Paleolithic Age, it is thought to be the third-oldest continuously-inhabited city in the world, after Jerusalem and Jerico.

Matera was the filming site for Mel Gibson’s movie, “The Passion of the Christ,” and in 2021, the Bond movie “No Time to Die,” was one of several European filiming sites.

The district of Matera known as the Sassi (Italian for “stones”) contains some 1,500 cave dwellings in the flanks of a steep ravine. Today, these underground residences are being reinhabited by Italians, and staying in one of the Sassi’s cave hotels has become one of Europe’s most exotic new experiences. Where else can you now sleep in a room that was first occupied 9,000 years ago?

This is a multi-frame panoramic image with an aspect ration of 1 : 3, and can be printed on canvas or metal from 12 x 36” up to 20” x 60”. On canvas, this photo can be “backlighted” with dimmable, multi-color choice LED strips that light up the city lights from behind.

All prints are available in ready-to-hang, gallery-wrapped CANVAS or METAL (aluminum). The largest print size currently available is 40 x 60” in CANVAS or METAL.

Please contact me directly if you are interested in non-standard sizes, large-format multi-panel prints on CANVAS, or any other options.
